Hello to you all. I haven't been around for a while;my tank and its fish have all been doing well until I noticed that all three of my platys were looking pregnant with no male in the tank since New Year's Day !!

They look fatter now than they did when they were pregnant. They all swim around normally and eat well. They do often have long poohs with the occasional white stringy one.

Tank is well planted and water readings are fine.

I treated my tank with wormer several months ago,but have since added more fish and a few invertebrates.

The wormer I used was Flubenol 15.

Any ideas on what I should do and if I redose with the above, will it kill my shrimp/crabs ?

Thanks. malfie

How often do you feed them? They are like little pigs platys, mine are like squirrels gone loose in a bag of nuts when i feed them and get huge. Platys can carry sperm for a long time and can refertilise their own eggs, so if one male has been in there, you can expect multiple broods from one fish! They literally are like baby making machines. You could also cut their feeding down to once, every other day. Thats what i do and they are fine, they wont starve and will keep your tank clean as the spend non food days grazing on any remains of food on ornaments and substrate. If they are pregnant, you can normally see a dark spot just behind the anal fin and have a square shape to their bodies from behind. HTH, Gra. :good:

Thanks for the information.

I feed them a little twice a day and I have thought of feeding them less often but I have hatchet fish which only seem to eat stuff that's floating on the surface and they are wafer thin already !!

My platys do eat more than the other fish, but I guess I thought the may be eating more if they had worms.
