iv just discovered that one of my neon tetras has become very fat however it is equal on both sides. does this mean it has NTD?

any advice to what it could be would be very grateful :)

The sypmtoms of NTD are usually; loss of colour, emaciation and bent or kinked spines, so that doesn't really fit what you're seeing. Could it be gravid (full of eggs)? Or maybe bloat, constipation or dropsy?

I'd better ask all the usuals; how big is the tank, what's the filtration, what's your water change regime, what fish are in it and how long has it been set up?

Do you have any recent test results?

yeah i had a fish with NTD that i got a rid of about a week ago but no other fish are showing the signs.

tank is 35 litres with about 20 small fish in it, iv just put a new filter in it so surely it cant be that and i change a third of the water every 6 weeks with the tank being set up about 3 months now.

what test results are you talking about?

ok; you have a lot of potential issues here...

Did you put all the media from the old filter into the new one?
If you didn't, then you will have thrown away all the good bacteria that you need to eat the ammonia and nitrites that the fish produce.

Test kits are chemicals that you can add to a test tube of tank water and will tell you how mch ammonia, nitrite and nitrate there is in the water; the first two are very poisonous and could make your fish very sick or kill them.

A 35l tank is in no way big enough for 20 fish; even tiny ones; 7 or 8 (maybe a dozen 'micro' fish) would be about the limit.

Also, changing a third of the water every six weeks isn't enough; my own tanks get 50 or 60% weekly!

Do some large water changes (warm, dechlorinated water, of course) as I expect it's ammonia or nitrite poisoning that is making your fish ill.

Do post again if you need more help or have questions :)
