Hmmm, you may remember a couple of weeks ago I posted that I'd found 3 fry in my tank. Well, last week I found another and 2 more today, so I now have a total of 6 in the breeding net. I'm assuming they're all of the same batch but now I'm not so sure. They're either guppies or mollies, I can't tell yet, I didn't even know I had any pregnant fish!

Some of the fry are twice the size of teh others, I thought because 3 were caught straight away and the other 3 have spent some time in the main tank hiding from the adult fish and obviously haven't been eating as well. Can you overfeed fry? But now I'm wondering if they're a mix of mollies and guppies, most of them have black tails, but the biggest fattest one looks kinda dalmation. Now a few days ago I got a bit worried about one of my female mollies, she looked very thin and tired but now she's back to normal, although still thin. Perhaps she's just given birth.........I guess time will tell!

Anyway, blah, blah, blah......can you overfeed fry?

With my fry i try to feed more often but still small amounts- they get full quick (even mollies!) and uneaten food may rot.Good luck

Hi - Yes that's what I've been doing, however I left my husband in charge one night and he just threw flakes in without crushing them, I've tried to get what I can out with a net, but how do I really clean the breeding net without losing the fry? I have a small 5 gallon tank, but I wanted to leave them in the net for at least a month before stressing them out too much, plus I need to sort out a filter for the small tank, I've got a fluval 1 but I think it's too powerful. When I had the guppy fry's late father in it he was getting blown about all over the place (he was sick though, maybe healthy fry would be ok). Hmmm.

You could keep an eye on your ammonia level as they might rise soon due to the food rotting but i bet you'll be fine. I use a pump very similar to a fluval 1 in my 35litre tank-my fry get blown around but they seem to love it im sure!

Just caught another 3!! They are tiny, def new born, that explains my mollie's dramatic weight loss! So I now have 2 week old guppy fry and newborn molly fry in the same breeding net, is that ok?

Cool-shouldnt be a problem at all -adult mollies rarely eat their babies i've found- and babies together shouldnt eat each other -their mouths wont be big enough! :good:

I'll give them a week then I'll set up the 5 gallon. Would it be cruel to lift the whole net out the big tank with the fry in it and put it straight in the smaller tank and release them? Rather than start trying to net them?

Thats how I do it, I would think it's less stress than netting them :good:
