Fasting

IM the same as bunjiweb!

I vary my feeding pattern and the food items. Flake, worms, bloodworms, bs, pellets....etc etc.

I tend not too skip days but if i do, i dont overfeed the next day! :)

I fast my fish often.
It does them good - I will leave them for a day or two with no food but always make sure they have enough to drink

I once heard "HAPPY FISH ARE HUNGRY FISH" :D so yes I do tend to skip a feeding every now and again. That doesn't mean that I give an extra big helping the next time though :p

I dont see why some of you are so worried about missing a days worth of food?!? Healthy fish can EASILY live a week without feeding. A friend of mine went to Australia for nearly 3 months and i just fed and maintained his tank once a week and his fish are more healthy than before he went away..!

Just remember, your fish dont NEED feeding everyday, they just expect it if thats what you have always done.
If you vary your fish's feeding patterns and dont feed them for a day or 2 it WILL benefit them.
It has often been said, fish are like kids, they will pester you for food when they dont necessarily need it.... Then they will leave half of it because they get full easily!

I always fast after I feed live bloodworms....they stuff themselves so they need a day or so to clean out! :p

Fish in their habitats will go a day, days, or even weeks without food. More often then not they live the greater part of their lives on the edge of starvation. Nobody has really proven whether fasting is good for them, but it's guranteed that it does no harm whatsoever. Fish eat tons more in our aquariums then they ever would in the wild, so why not do it every now and then? I don't fast my fish unless i'm going on vacation, but I feed them quite lightly in the first place.

I dont feed my fish on the day that i do a water change. I let the fish clear up what the gravel cleaner didnt clear up. :D

im on holiday right now(third day of a six day holiday) and decided against someone coming to feed my fish,
i also do what bunji does and feed them at random times or every 2 days instead of having a regular pattern

:)

I am trying to encourage those who come into work seeking advice not to feed their fish every day. Every other day is a large step closer to helping yourself get clearner water and healthier fish. I have talked to some people who have been feeding their fish 3 times a day and wondering why they have high ammonia readings and dying fish...

I have livebearers and I think I tend to overfeed... but when I did go a day without feeding them, I noticed one of my smaller fry missing

coincidence? or did they get hungry?
