I read that it is good to not feed your fish 1 day a week...

This is week 2 and it is so hard to watch the poor guys crowd against the glass waiting for food when i walk by. :-(

I want to give in but if its for there own good i'll wait it out till tomarrow. :/

Maybe i'll give in just this once  , No i must be strong. :p

Hi StevieJack :)

I like to eat and I know that my fish do too. I know that some people do fast their fish, but I would never do it and have never had any problems because I didn't. :D

nuf said B) I have the blood worms thawing as i type this post.

Ill read up more and see if this fasting is right for my tank, so far it is in good condition thanks to this forum. :)

Boy, i bet they eat good tonight

My fish love to eat bloodworms too much, I cant make them go through the process of fasting. They'll miss eating their precious bloodworms.

I feed my fish once every two days.

It is always better to underfeed than overfeed, but if you feed em just right, thats the best :D

Agreed, but i do vary the diet, flakes, blood worms and brine shrimp.

P.S. i have 6 Tiger barbs in a 10g tank, I have a 30g tank that has just cycled and any day now the transfer will start. :kana:

You feed your fish once every two days! That's amazing.

Adult fish can survive weeks without food but young fish should be fed very day.

I feed my small adult fish 5 days a week and fast them twice, my large adult fish get fed twice a week (apart from the cichlids and arowana which get floating pellets 5 days a week) and my young fish in grow out tanks get fed every day, sometimes twice a day.

I also have a hard time fasting my fish. I have done it a few times because I know that it is better to underfeed than to overfeed. But most of the time when I decide its time to fast them for a day, I usually give in. They are just so cute when they beg for food.

A good reason you often hear that it's better to underfeed fish, rather than feed them too much, is to avoid the chance of any uneaten food remaining in the tank and spoiling. This will feed bad bacteria, cloud the water and increase the possibility of of the fish getting sick.

This is why it's often better to give two small feedings rather than one big one, especially for beginning fishkeepers. :D

I dont know how much to feed my fish -_- I have 1 angel fish (maybe 3 inches long) 1 Redtail shark, 2 black neons, 7 neon tetras, 2 blood fin tetras, 2 cherry barbs, 2 guppies, 1 platy, 1 sword and one tiger barb

I agree totally

But your opinion of this will change when you see your fish die from dropsy...poor little guys don't look that great then...

I now feed my fish once a day...flakes only.....one day a week they get a fast day (but the catfish babies still get their algae tab and cucumber)....every second week they get bloodworms!! My platies are now lean mean breeding machines!!!
