I bought this product, that I told several a long time ago, called "Sure Start" Sure enough it started my tank well, and my convicts are thriving. But doesn't these products kill ammonia, nitrite and the like? So this stops the cycling thing? Or does the whole process go on in the background no matter what type of chemical you add? The reason I brang this up, was becasue someone else brought the post up, but I just wanted to clarify it. Tanx in Adv.

I've used Cycle in all three of my tanks and it has been quite wonderful. I also have the Bio Wheel system in all three tanks so that may have helped.

However, I had a 5 gallon hex that I started Monday night. Fresh gravel, filter, bio wheel, etc. Tested the water levels one hour after starting the tank from scratch and they were ALL within range. My Eclipse System 3 (3 gallon) is still doing well five or six weeks out. I add Cycle at each water change.

I haven't heard of the product that you mentioned, but it sounds like it might be similar.

Cycling chemicals like "Sure Start" are actually beneficial bacteria held in suspension. The idea is that you can add an extra load of beneficial bacteria and that will speed up cycling.

Whether it works or not is a matter of dispute.
