Having had some sucess breeding Rotkeil Severums, I have been looking into fry foods available (I make my own). I am rather alarmed at some of the foods claiming to make the fry grow quickly. Personally I dont think growing fry quickly to get them to a size ready for selling in a matter of weeks is good for the long term health of the fish. So far I have only found a couple of articles on the net confirming my thoughts about fast growing fry. I brought 10 german blue rams last year from a breeder, they were 8 weeks old and almost full grown, I have none left. I have also bought angels in the past from different LFS which only lasted a few weeks, but those I bought from a hobby breeder are doing really well.
Now the rams were in small 18x18 tanks all crammed in together fed on a "fry mix", the angels from the hobby breeder were in a much larger tank and fed normal foods. It could be just conincidence, but I am sure I am not the only one that has bought fish that have died without explaination. Just wondering what your thoughts are?
