I came home and saw one of my guppys hovering near the surface. He was normally bright orange with spots....really pretty. Now, his is going pale and doesn't swim with his tankmates. He doesn't have signs of ich or anything. His tail was a bit split, not frayed.

I checked the water Ph--7.0, Ammonia--0, Nitrite--0, Nitrate--15ish, Temp--78.

All other fish are fine and active. Fully planted tank.

I don't see any signs of illness. I'm at a loss. Could he have gotten in a fight? I have two other male fancytail guppies and a male CT Betta, but the betta has never bothered anybody and the guppies will playfully chase each other around, never seen them in combat or anything close to it.

Any help? :/

Well, I had two fancytails in there for about 2 weeks. We just added the one that is acting strangely last week. I'd say about 5 days, maybe. He was fine, then yesterday the problem started.

:) Fish gaspping at the surface can be 1) 02 deficiency 2) excess co2 (planted tanks) 3) Maybe some type of toxcin in the water.

My tank gets plenty of Oxygen. I haven't used my CO2 in over a week to compare results. As far as toxins go, I have 12 fish and he is the only one acting oddly.

That's the weird thing. I see no visible signs of disease. No Ich, no Fungus, no Rot. He has just lost color and is acting sluggish.

one of my male guppies got a bite out of his tail and a split and I blame the gourami - can't think who else to blame. Mended now and never affected him like yours is.
I had 3 sunset wagtail pltties in with a betta but they all got their tails chewed up badly in one night so had to come out smartish.
Think you have a sick fish tho. - as well

maybe internal bacterial infection he had when he came?

When I left this morning he wasn't looking good. I'm expecting the worst when I get home. If he is still alive it's quarantine time, but I highly doubt he'll make it through the day.

20 US Gallons. I have 1 cory, 2 ottos, 2 ghost shrimp, 4 small harlequin rasboras, I male CT Betta and 3 fancytail guppies.....one near death.
