Have been considering a change for a while now and took the plunge last weekend.

Used to have sand and plastic plants

Now after a substrate change and some real plants

I had no idea what plants I bought apart from the Amazon Swords.

Just to top off your story, the ferns (middle rear) in your tank are not aquatic plants, and i dont think the grasses are to the far right
The fern is now behind the cave
Taken from this thread http://www.fishforums.net/content/Tropical...e-Is-Happening/

Also could someone Id the other plants as they were not labled at the Lfs.

Current Stocking
30 gal (L40"xH15"xW12")
2 x "Red" Rams 1m 1f
10 x Tiger Barbs (Soon to be rehomed in a new tank)
5 x Silver Tip Tetras
5 x Red Eye Tetras
1 x Bristlenose Plec
1 x Clown Plec
Overfilterd With:-
1 x Eheim Pro 2224 External
1 x Eheim Ecco 2233 External
Standard T8 30w Juwel bulb + T5 24w TriPlus PC

Your thoughts, (Good or Notsogood).

Problem you got to take a closer picture, I can tell that some of the plants are non aquatic and will die.

From a planted perspective its a massive improvement :) the plants look good, although Frozenbarb is right unfortunately they dont all look aquatic.

If you want some advice, get a load more plants, its a good start but IMHO it needs more plants so be a 'proper' planted tank :) One tip, a few blocks each of which only contains one species, looks better than lots of small groups of different plants.

Hope that helps

Sam

Been a while, tried to sort a few planting issues out.

Current Setup

I also have a question on one of the plants. I think it is a Hygrophila Polysperma sort.
The one in the middle has started to develope pink leaves, is this normal?

Yes, under higher lighting conditions it will turn pink, becuase it has reached the surface in yours where most light is that is why. If you want more pink then get higher light. Have you changed your light as it seems different?

No, havn`t changed any lighting, still using Standard T8 30w Juwel bulb + T5 24w TriPlus PC.

Just in the last few days everthing has had a growth spurt and started to change colour. The tall one to the left hand side has suddenly changed its top leves to a dark red colour. I don`t mind, it adds a bit of colour insted of the basic green.

You have Hygrophila polysperma `Rosanverig`, which does turn pink. As it gets taller, you may find it going a bit redder. Greenline often mix up their normal (green) and `Rosanverig` varities. It`s a very easy and fast growing plant.

The improvement of your tank now compared to the flower pot days is huge, and well worth the effort. :good:

Dave.

Very nice change looks like you did your research and replace all the junky plants.

The one stalky plant next to the Hygro is that a anubias? If it is take the rhizome out of the substrate and tie it to a wood or rock.

Not sure what it is, I will try and get a better picture later to confirm its species. It seems to be growing very well as it is. If it is an anubius are they not supposed to be planted in substrate?

No. the rhizome will rot.

Its obvious the research you did shows!!
The tank looks great...maybe one day I will have the whoozeecallits to plant my tank! :hyper:
