Hi Everyone,
Sorry, I know this isn't a tropical fish exactly (at least, I don't think it is), but I'm posting here because someone will probably have some ideas.

I'm "rescuing" a fan-tail goldfish from a little boy who's been keeping it in a 2 gallon tank with no filtration and no aeration. I would prefer to find the fish a new permanent home, but in the meantime, I thought I'd keep it in a 2' tank I have spare. I have a Fluval 3 power filter and some old plastic plants hanging about. Is there anything else the fish needs? Will it need gravel or can it get by without until I can re-home it? Is it cruel to keep it without companions?

Also, the tank won't be cycled at all. I presume a goldfish who survived its current home will be tolerant to ammonia and nitrite, but is there anything I can do to help acclimate the fish a little better?

I have promised this little boy that I'll find the fish a better home for it but if I take it to the LFS can I be certain they won't feed it to a pirahna or something? Failing that, what is the best way to find this fish a good home? If anyone wants a free fan-tail and they are prepared to come and fetch it, they are welcome to it :look:

Thanks!

Everything sounds fine for a temp home. Put a small layer of gravel on the bottom this will stop the light reflection and dassleing of the fish ;)
