Hi all,

I managed to get some oak twigs for my tank. I soaked them and baked them before putting them in the tank but they insisted on growing a white fungus coating within days. I have since soaked them in boiling water (changed loads of times) for weeks and weeks but they still grow this fungus: I have now given up on using them in my tank.

I really wanted some twigs, as the look really suited my design plans for the tank: I have searched and searched but cannot find any resin/fake twigs anywhere online or in shops. Does anyone know if these exist, and if not does anyone know if yuo can buy pre-soaked/treated twigs that would be less likely to grow stuff on them when in the tank?

Ta,

I found the moment that I add twigs to my tank the Amano Shrimp and Otos are at it constantly. The only time I have seen this fungus is when I had some bogwood in my tank for a week before I bought any fish or shrimp.

Dave.

I don't have shrimps or otto's at the mo, I may add some shrimps at some point but I can't think there'll be enough of them to sort all the twigs, it is only a 5gallon tank.

I have some twigs in my tank too. When I first added in there are some white fungus too, but this only happened in first few days and after that it disappeared. I noticed my oto, amano shrimps, red cherry shrimps and flying foxes are always looking for food on the twigs... :)

The fungus never went on mine, they were in the tank for about 6 weeks (no fish but twigs were soaked and baked before going in the tank). If I put them back in the fungus returns. Given up on them for now hence looking for other options.

Then I would suggest to try with twigs from other type of plants, try a few types until you got the one... good luck.
