your giving in to easily just because something didn't go well the first time u don't need to give up just keep trying :)

ive had 17 problemsin 1 month from 1 tank i cant deal with all of it on my own im 14 and my mum is sick of the tank now aswell

Sorry to hear tha arif, i wish you luck next time! But if you do do it again, i would strongly advise you to spend a bit more time researching and planning what you want to do. Many of us spend months on end researching before we start a tank! I spent almost 6 months just looking thorugh this forum and others! (im only 16 btw and i know others are younger, it can be done!)

Again, good luck

Tom

lol ive been reading this forum since 12 2 years but only jonde thismonth specifcally for this tank i probs start readin nano reef forum cuz thats what i want to do. cuz in marine theres no need for substrate or co2 ferts lol
i had my first tank at 4 it was a 8 litre container with 2 goldfish in it lol i one them at a fair and ever since ive been hooked

i want to get a job at my local lfs or at my local ma im gonna fone and see what the mininmum age they start recruiting :shifty:

i cant do anything now cuz i broke my arm in into 2 pieces lol i got a cast for next 6 weeks atleast :(

I think if plants was an issue, marine is harder, but I can't say from personal experience :)

Why not stick to easier plants, like I'm doing for now... I'm pretty much sticking with java fern/mosses and I'm enjoying it so far. Don't give up too easily :)

Hey Arif

Sorry to hear you are giving up on high tech.

My advice to you would be to strip down your tank and keep it low tech while you can get your funds/experience together.

I am 23 on friday and I still don't have all the skills and money to get my tank perfect.

The problem is with high tech you need the money to keep throwing at it, to get it off the ground and you can't really go into it half heartedly or ill equipped/financed.

If I were you I would spend the next few months reading this forum daily and learning from other peoples mistakes ;) Get your money together and give it another go. After all, you have got all the expensive stuff together now. It is easier from here.

Marine tank would be a huge mistake at this point, they are money pits and make planted tanks look like childs play. I have been keeping fish for ten years now and I still wouldn't say I am ready for marines. For you, it would be very much out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Good luck and I hope to see you in here now and again

aaron

You are giving in far too easy Arif, and can you honestly say that a great looking reef tank is as beautiful as a great looking planted tank? No where near.

I have spent close to £1000 since October when I first started to take the plunge and have had all sorts of algae problems, lighting issues, CO2 issues and only last month killed all my fish and shrimps with a CO2 overdose, but have I given in?

I felt like doing so for a day or so but then saw a beautiful German Blue Ram in the local Aaargh store (sorry I mean P@H) and I thought 'Lets get this tank sorted'

The problem is just that you're looking for too much too soon. The tank neeeds time to mature and balance out a little and until then you will have either a chore or a challenge. It depends which way you look at it much like the glass is it half empty or half full. Ther is no quick fix to planted unless you put the plants in, take a pic and then just look at the pic forever.

Stick at it. Let us help you through it. Just use play sand, bog standard lights and DIY CO2 and let people live it with you on here.

Most of all enjoy the ups and the downs and battle on through them and one day you can have an exhibition tank once you've learnt and made mistakes and learnt some more and made more mistakes etc.

Aim for the basic to start and build your way up.

You already have what you need:

The tank, the plants. Get 1 bag of plain sand from Argos for £2.50. DIY CO2 knowledge etc and also a lot of good advice on here. think about it and then come back and show us how strong your will really is.

See you soon

Andy

Marine has as many things to monitor etc as planted tanks, saline levels, all the equipment etc etc. I say try again with planted tanks, maybe going for a lower tech approach with low light and no CO2. Much simpler and maybe would keep Mum happy!

ok guys i wont give up ive re planted tank but there looking dead especially glosso and micro sag..
i figured u guys r right it would e much easier to fix this tank then go to marine so heres what im gonna do 2.1wpg and im getting this diy co2 thing sorted after school i will go to my local hardware store and get aquarium sealant and a t junction connector i will cut a hole in 2 2ltr bottles and seal the up connect them to a t junction a non return valve and hopefully it sholdnt leak....
what is the best yeast / sugar/ water solution for a 2 ltr bottle i will use allinsons dried yeast and normal granulated sugar...
thanks for the encouagement u guys ill start a journal from now may be when i get home...
l8erz.
oh and plz reply quick i neeed co2 sorted out by tonight

You'll have to leave the sealant (make sure it is aquarium safe!) for around 48-hours so you can't start CO2 until the stuff is dry.

I think your tank is 10-gallons? The mixture in George Farmers pinned thread should be perfect.

None of those plants look dead, can't see any issues in the pictures. Nice layout :)

DIY CO2 "recipe" I use is:

1 cup of sugar (tea cup, so about half a mug).

1/2 teaspoon of yeast. (maybe a tiny bit more)

Fill to just short of where the bottle starts to curve in towards the lid (about 3/4 or so) with warm (approx 30 deg C) tap water. I hold my hand over the end (without the lid on) and give it a gentle shake to get the mix going, and to get the sugar off the bottom of the bottle. Then put the cap on and leave it :)

Good luck :)

Nice to have had you on board and sorry to see you go, hope the reef goes ok :)

Sam
