Failing Heaters

Has anyone had any problems with failing aquarium heaters? If so could you please state the make and size of heater and what happened when they failed.

Not quite what you wanna know, but I thought my heater had failed, de-rigged it from the cable tidy, rushed and bought another one, installed it (sighed with relief), re-tested the 'failed' heater and it worked. WTF?

Heaters if anything tend to stick in the on poisition. If not noticed quick enough your fish end up rather hot. This has happened to a number of people here. They can also crack if you forget to switch them off when doing a large water change. Visitherm seem to be the most highly rated heaters from what I've read. PFK have a heater guide here but you need to have registered
