Spinal
Fish Crazy
Greetings! I just came back from a trip to Sweden (sorry to the Swedes out there, but you guys have a weird sense of humour... great fish tho!) and hauled back some plants/shrimp. (Well, some plants, and I found some shrimps hitchhiking in the mix).
Unfortunately, the shrimp died in voyage, but the plants seem quite content. I have placed them in a spare tank (3ft, so plenty of space for them). And plan to add laterite/rocks today. Atm, I have just some dry fert which I use for my other tanks in there with them to help them recover.
Problem is... I have absolutely no idea what they are! At first I thought some weird java moss, but my LFS denied it categorically (then added that they would like to keep some...)
The water I found them in was brackish and cold (will attempt to adapt them to tropical water as time progressess, for now they sit in brackish... as the water changes come by it will become fresh).
My test kit came up with these stats:
LOCATION: ***, SWEDEN
WATER TEST DATE: 3.10.2006
PH: 6.4
KH: 0
GH: >16
NO2: 0
NO3: 0
And finally... the plant... the easiest way to see it is ... think of a chinese rice noodle (the translucent, almost see through ones). Now, immagine that green. You have the plant! It has no root struture that I found (being anchored to solid rock with no crevasses), but grows in bunches/clumps. Some of the leaves are hollow tubes and have bubbles (O2 I'm guessing) in them.
Pictures attached (sorry about the quality, I can't find the courage to dip my nikonos in that water to take one shot
) :

Ideas? Comments? Info?
Anything is nice
Thanks,
Michele
Quick edit: forgot to mention, most of the clumps sink. One or two strands float, but most sink. Also, ignore the background, thats my shed (which has a transparent roof) which permits me not to run a light just for these plants
