I bought 2 angels today and one of them is attacking the other and my kuhli loaches. Its nightime so i cant return it, ive got no other tank, what should i do?
Ive got rummynose tetras, cardinal tetras, kuhli, a platy and dwarf gouramis)

Have you got a net, or a container it can fit in to float in the tank, so you can isolate it?

Size will be fine. Either get a that will house him nicely to isolate him from the others intill you find away to sort it.

Im thinking maybe getting another 4 Angels to make a group that might sort him out but not sure with the other fish in the tank it might be over stocked.

Personally if it was me id consider just having the one Angel and giving the bully to a friend who is Angeless but has a tank the right size for him.

ive got a net

My tank is 4 foot 45 gallons! Ive got a small net!

Should i just put it in a bucket with some warm water??

No as the water in the bucket can soon lose temperture. Is there any other LFS around you that may take him off your hands?

We have a few round us that will take them in for 2 reason.

1. To make sure the fish are safe and sound
2. Profit on a resale of the fish

If it is not out of control (actual damage to other fish) give them time to calm down. They are figuring out their new home and co-inhabitants, could just be temporary.

See if things have settled down by tomorrow (if it's not actually harming the others).

Yes the fish shop will take him but its night here, no fish shops are open.

Im not sure about damage as it's very small but all my other fishes are small and its constantly targeting the other angel, its actually nipping it. It was following my kuhli until i banged on the glass, so i guess it will harm them!

Unless you can see actual damage (and that should be easy to spot on the other angel) I would simply give it some time.

Whenever I've intoroduced anything new to my angels, they will have a good 'investigation' for a few hours, become accustomed to it, then ignore it. If it persists then you will need to remove it.

How about i only keep one, will that be ok or should i give them both back?? Are angelfish aggressive when alone?

For now i've just put it in a bucket with some warm water, ill keep adding some warm water every couple of hours. I was going to sleep to i cant observe it, im scared it might kill my fish at night.

were both of them in the same tank at the shop?

you can keep one.....but that'll be a fairly lonely angel. Obviously you should take back the bully if that's what you choose.

Angels can be aggressive on their own (they are cichlids after all), but don't have much of a reputation for being so. However, it all depends on the personality of the specific fish.

have you at least got a thermometer in there to make sure you aren't fluctating the temperature too much with the addition of warm water?

Depends on the size of the bucket, but ammonia levels could rise pretty fast in that small volume of water.

Yes they were in the same tank in the shop. It wouldve been ok if it was only chasing, it's actually nipping and the other angel went flat on the floor for a second or so. I will only keep it in the bucket for a few hours, its 12 now, ill take it to the shop 8.30 as soon at the shop opens. I guess ill just take them both!

It was recommended to me by our LFS to only purchase Angels in odd numbers, i.e 3, 5 and so on. On that note, we brought the remaining 2 Platinum Angels they had in stock and they get on just fine with no aggression towards each other or our other tank inhabitants....
