A few months back I had a batch of platy fry in a community tank (not much else in with them, just the two parents, a sailfin molly, RTB shark whom I have now rehomed, and a female betta). Around 15 of them survived to adults and are now looking about the same size as the parents - apart from one wee little thing who is still only about 2cms long (the others are around 5-6cms). He also only has one eye. I think he must have been born like that as there is no sign of injury or blindness - just nothing there but skin.
Anyway, this little 'un just hasn't grown like the rest of them. They are not all in the same tank now, I hasten to add. I divided the batch and so a few are in the original tank with him and the others are in another of my community tanks.
Have any of you ever had a fry that just wouldn't grow at a normal pace, despite nothing different being done - he eats like the rest of them, hasn't been ill, swims around quite happily... he's just a "mini-me" version of his siblings.
Can you get a dwarf platy?
Thanks - Athena
(going home in a min - back on here tomorrow).
