External Parasites

I recently purchased two gulper catfish from a distributor. The fish act healthy and are eating. However, the one I noticed seems to have a 1cm long red thign hanging off his fin. It looks liek some kind of worm. Has anyone had this, and is it an external parasite? If so how should I get rid of it?

try tropical fish emergiencys for this one, if its comming of the anus then its an internal paracite.
