Hi can anyone recommend an external for a vison 180 planted tank? :/

I use a Eheim 2224 for exactly the same tank. Fabululous and only paid £90 for it all in. Cleaning is a dream and couldn't be any easier.
Easier definitely than my Eheim classic 2213 on my smaller tank that's for sure.

do you have it in one of the doored cabinets? what media have you got in it?

yes, it fits in perfectly underneath the little shelf.
Media not sure - it came with it :dunno: but I think it's Ehfisubstrat & Ehfimech + the sponge pads.
This is quite a good deal.
But you might want to check out the new Professional II range as well.

ok thanks :)

If you want something a bit cheaper an Eheim 2215 would work well on a 180 litre tank, but the deal bloozoo has pointed out is a good one IMO.

cheers zig :)

bloozoo are you running the juwel internal also or have you taken that out?

no, I was getting fedup with it - apart from being an eye sore in the tank, it was also a pain to clean thoroughly on a weekly basis. I added the eHeim and ran both alongside each other for 2 weeks, then just removed the Juwel. All perfect and so much nicer.
Make sure you have enough space behind the tank though - the little "arms" need some space.

eeeerm how much space

not much - a few inches will do - I think 5 or 6 should be fine. I'm not at home mo, so can't check precisely. My tank used to be almost flush against the wall, but I had to move it forward a bit. Not as hard as it sounds though :) I emptied 50% of the water and just moved it slowly.

ohdear i only have 2" and dont really want to move much further forwards, can you get away without these arms? forgive my noviceness i havent had an external before! :D

nope - no arms means no water ! lol
the water flows through the little "arms" that hook over the tank.

ok cheers bloozoo :) Does anyone know how much space i need at the rear of the tank for fluval externals?

It's really really not that hard to move the tank - I'm a girl and I can do it ;)
but it's actually not as bad as I thought - just measured it and it's 2.75 " exactly.

Its not the moving it :D its the fact it sits in a recess and is flush with the walls but 2.75" will be cool thanks for looking

cheers mick
