Hi - i currently have a 40 gallon tank with a Fluval 4 plus internal filter

I want to change to external as it is too bulky in the tank

How do i go about setting up my external.

Do i have to put the sponges from the fluvel internal into the external

Any suggestions accepted

Thanks, Adam

p.s. What external filter do you recomend?

yeah, out the sponges in the new filter, to keep all the good bacteria

most people recommend eheims, I personally don't have any running but they are meant to be the best

I recommend the Rena Filistar canister filters. Nothing but A+ from me.

Hi,

I'm running Eheim 2026's on my 180L (40gal) tanks - can't recommend them enough (although have never used any of the others, so that's just my one-sided opinion, lol). You could either run the new filter alongside the old for some weeks so that it builds up the good bacteria or, as you said, just add the old sponges into the new filter.
