i dont think you can take them out.
i have a jewel and i have a job taking it apart never mind taking it out

yeah you may end up breakin the tank if you force it out coz they're pretty STUCK!!!

We smashed a Vision 180 tank at work the other day and the filter box was definatly not meant to be taken out. lol we hit that glass with a metal bar around 18 times before it finally smashed!

You can take them out. I've taken mines out because it was too noisy.

Just use a hot sharp knife and slowly insert it down the sides of the filter. It took me about 30mins to remove mine.

yeah to be honest the hot knife method came to mind....just didn't know if you already had stuff in there or not. :p

Damn i thought those filters were quiet!!!

I took mine out cause it sucked.
Didnt take long.
Its stuck on with double sided sticky pads. I just slowly pushed a screw driver into the top ones to get them off. Then pushed the top over to the left to brake the bottom pads off.
Just be careful, buts its def worth it after!!!! Im well pleased with my external filter on my one now.

We put externals on all our Juwels and left the internals in as well.
You can never have enough filtration!

We also upgraded the powerheads on the internals to shift more water per hour.

I only have the 125 so it was taking up too much space as well. Specially when you tried to hide it behind plants etc...
Much prefer it without.

took mine out of a trigon (right in the back corner) while full of water (and stock!) with a bread knife - 45 sec job, easy!

Yeah, with Tiggs on that one. It took me seconds to take the large compact H filter out of my tank. I didn’t even have to empty it (as I dreaded I’d have to :X ). I just took a stanley knive and did the job in two tics ! Easy Peasy !
