Hi,
Tuesday ..as per previous post will be ordering a canister filter for my Jewel 125 tank...Either a Eheim or Tech Tec..Now the the Tech Tec 700 i can get for £71 and the 1200 for £76 ..so for just a fiver difference can get a much bigger filter. which no doubt will be very useful for future tank upgrades.. However should i get the 1200 would it do any harm to control the flow via the inlet and outlet taps as i feel the 1200 will be a little to powerful for a 125 litre tank.. If i do that i will in effect be altering the filter the filters flow to do something its not designed to do.. Will it harm the Filter.?.If so better to get the 700....Will also today be looking at the Eheim range Regards Zac

Hi Zac,

You can reduce the flow using taps on the filter safely, yes :good: However, you must only use the outlet tap. If you close the inlet tap to restrict the flow, you increase the negative pressure on the motor unit and can cause unusual wear and premature failures  The outlet tap will apply positive pressure. While not ideal, it won't be as damaging to the pump :good: If you use the spray bar, you'll likely be able to run the EX1200 at full tile without issues with flow anyway

All the best
