Hi all,

has anyone got any expieriencies/ thoughts on an all ponds solution 1000EF+ with UV light or any recomendations on something of a similar price scale

I have a 125l fluval roma tank and at the moment have 5 tiger barbs and 2 rosy barbs which i would like to add to soon. TBH im not to happy with the bundled fluval filter but dont know if above might be to powerful at 1000l/ph

any thoughts suggestions please

i've heard they can be a bit of a pain getting them primed nicely?
other than that pretty good

If you are going to add to the tank it might be worth going for the aps 1400ef. I have not used the 1000 (dont have any tanks small enough) but I do have the 1400 and 2000, 12 of them (10 2000 and 2 1400 in use). I really rate these filters out of all the ones I have I have never had any real problems with them at all. If you do go for an APS filter you can use the code JAN-15 and get a further 15% off the sale price until the end of January :)

I am running a 1000ef and I am very impressed with it

I had a problem priming the pump after the first strip down but now I make sure I drain the watet out of both the inlet and outlet pipes and this cures the priming problem when I refill the pump

i wasnt sure if the 1000 would send the little fishies round in a whirlpool given the tank is 125l and the 1400 is extra on top of that ? any thoughts here as dont mind getting the 1400 if suitable ............my tank setup will be mainly barbs

what size tank do you have ?

Lph is based on the power of the cannister when empty, lph drops loads once you add all the media.

With the spray bar on the 1400 you can set it so it wont be a whirlpool :) I run 1400 on my 180l tanks.

would you bother with the uv model or not ?

I do use the uv models and prefer them, there is not much difference between the two. The uv is useful for controlling green water, with having so many tanks some of mine do get sunlight on them and the UV is brilliant for that.

Hope that helps :)

Would the UV lamp help control any other bacteria in the water that might infest the fish?

tbh doubt it given its built into the filter so the flow would be to fast past it, along with actual quality of uv set up as some ive seeing are quite expensive ..............but obviously im no expert here

i notice with this filter they do like a seperate add on unit that contains foams for £19.99 given they doing 15% off for january is this a worthwile investment ?

I am running my APS 1000ef alongside my Eheim 2073 which is 1050 l/h in my 200litre tank
