i have a biorb 60ltr ( and yes i know but wife only stopped moaning if i had this tank) i have now talked her into a nice bow front corner tank.
anyway is it worth putting the new ceramic media out of the new external in a sock and leaving in orb for a week or can i just put the orb media into the external as the orb bacteria is working well and have never had any ammonia in the last year since initial cycle.

I would put as much media from the biorb as you can in the new external, thats if you longer wish to use the biorb. If you plan on running both tanks then only remove a third of your biorbs media.

i forgot to say i have doubled the amount of media in the orb and will be giving away half the fish before new tank setup so should be able to move half of it and still be left with standard amount .
is it as good as the ceramic media in a fluval 305 filter though.

If its mature media it will help seed the biomax media within the 305. When you get your new tank the 305 will come with carbon in three of its media compartments, may i suggest you remove that and replace with the mature media from the biorb. Carbon is only generally used to remove tanins and medications from the waters chemistry.
When stocking i would be inclined to stagger the introduction over a period of time just so you don't put to much strain on the bio-load.

Keith.
