Hey guys. Some of you may know what im talking about because of my leaky tank post.

I bought one of those aquarium kits from Walmart and realized it leaked. My mom and I have owned many many many many tanks and we have NEVER had a tank leak on us before. Were we just lucky or do you think the quality of these tanks may be...not so good?

Thanks.

I've got 3 tanks from Wal-Mart, two I bought and one second hand and none have ever leaked.

WallMart is vary hard on every thing it sells. My brother works for them and he says they break so much a night at the DC that you could stock a small store. I would keep trying them my self. You can not beat the price.

Hi. Well i know a lot of people complain about Walmart, and let's face it, not all Walmarts are equal. I don't have that many complaints about my own, but that's another story. However, Walmart does not manufacture aquariums, nor do they assemble the kits. So your buying a kit from Walmart really has nothing to do with the quality of the tank. I would guess that you either just happened to get a leaky one, or perhaps it was mis-handled during the shipping process in transportation somewhere and sustained some damage. I wouldn't blame this one on Walmart.

I can vouch for what has been said already. When I was younger I stocked at a Wal Mart and yes they have to move so much stuff out at night (try 6 people unloading 2 full 18 wheeler loads in 2 hours, then stocking the store with that), things get thrown sometimes. Its also according to who is running things and who is working there, etc.

I vowed never to get an electronic device such as tv, etc from there and definately not a fish tank. But....I've wound up going back on that and getting both and I've never had a problem.

I got my 55 gallon and stand from a local Wal Mart and its been set up and taken down and moved countless times.....with some water and gravel still in it. Its a very sturdy well crafted tank.

I think sometimes you can just run into some back luck when it comes to stuff like this.

I have a 29 gallon, four 10 gallons, a 5 gallon, and many 1-2.5 gallon betta tanks from Walmart and have only had a problem once. One of the 1 gallon minibows had a small crack in the corner when I bought it, but it never actually leaked (took me a while to notice it) and sealed up nicely, no problem. Basically, it's wise to check the smaller tanks and make sure they're intact before you buy them, but Walmart has no problem letting you return a tank or trade it in if there is a problem with it.

Awesome, thanks you guys. i just realized I may have sounded a bit rude. I never meant in any way to bash Walmart or anything, I love that place! Its just that my LFS had an all-glass brand set up for about $30 more than the "generic" version at Walmart and I just didnt know if the price difference could be a reflection on quality. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Thanks for your input, guess I was just unlucky lol

Well, I just came back from returning JUST THE TANK. Remember I said that, that they said I could keep the stuff here and just return the tank? Well they gave us a WHOLE NEW SYSTEM. So now I have everything minus the tank for another 29gal system, FREE. I love that place! lol, well, thanks guys.

No offense taken, but some people are quick to blame Walmart for everything. Sometimes the tanks in those kits are made by All Glass which is a pretty good brand name.

If you've got the tank hood and lights and everything else for the set-up, you could go to a LFS and buy just the bare tank for not too much money and you'd have another complete set-up. That'd be a pretty good deal!

Yup! Thats just what we are going to do. My mom wants to take it and set it up for anglefish, which she was a very succesful breeder on a while ago. THe great thing is we just realized we have an old 29gallon cast iron stand in the garage thats in pretty good shape so all we need is rock, plants, and fish.

I actually had two 29g aquarium kits from Walmart and never had a problem with them. I no longer buy these kits since I am far too picky about filtration, lighting, and heat to accept what comes in the kits. But for a fish only set-up, they're great and pretty cheap.

I am not sure about the smaller tanks. But the 55 gallon kit($150 for tank, $100 for matching stand) walmart sells are made by All-Glass, walmart just puts their own label on it. The tank is good quality like all AG tanks. You just need to add a new filter as the one that came with the kit is very under powered.
