i just finished the final touches to my 55 gallon tank. There was already 2 baby cichlids ( red jewel and a striped one. i cant find the name of it  ) and i walked into the petstore planning to buy just a background and 50 dollars later came out with two new family members ! :hyper:

Hopefully these guys will get big .

How long do you think it will take for them to grow?

oscar cichlid and a young male electric blue cichlid prepare for a massive fish and the electric blue is a nice looking fish always wanted one but didnt have a tank big enough the oscar will grow really fast (reaches about 12 inches) and i dont know about the electric blue

Oscars require atleast a 75gal tank when adult, they can grow up to 16 inches! You should not mix new worlds with old worlds, but luckily the combo you have picked may just work. With all the fish now I would say eventually they will need a 100gallon tank.

actually everyone is pretty peaceful. No nibbling nothing. The new world and old world cichlids , i tried to read on that so i know but i didnt know these were in different categories. And im waiting to see these guys grow . When they get bigger( hopefully they do) i'll talk to my dad about moving up with the tank size . He's probably going to kill me for asking but its worth a shot :hyper:

If fed well and oscar will grow incredibly fast.. normally around 1"/month. It'll be really needing a new tank within the year probably.

I really don't think it's a good attitude to have saying "once it's massive I'll see if I can upgrade". Don't get fish which you can't house. It's that simple. Once it's big and you've tended to it for months (and got attached - who can't get attached to an oscar?), you're not going to want to have to re-home because you can't give it a decent sized tank.

There's also the argument that, once big, it'll be creating a LOT of mess and trying to keep a 55 clean with an oscar in will be a very frustrating, daily endeavor.

*edit* Also, in response to you saying it's all good and peaceful.. That's because it's still very small. Oscar's are very peaceful when small.. it's once they get 6-8"+ that they can start to get a little grumpy.

Peaceful at the moment, wait until they get bigger

You will need to get a bigger tank. I suggest discussing it with your tank as soon as possible, so you can really plan it out, and work on him...
