Hi,
i am starting to get concerned over over one of my female swordtails. She was looking very pregnant about a week ago, and i got up one morning to find one lonely fry, which is all good. She still looked like she was about to burst, so i thought maybe there was more to come. Anyway, no more have arrived and she still looks like shes going to burst. Any ideas about this and what i can do? Water quality is good, feeding both flakes and veg. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
J

How long since she had that first fry? She may have released more than one, if you have any other fish in there they dont mind a fry snack. She also may be suffering birthing difficulties: is she suffering an unusual traits or habits?

Thanks for replying. She isn't displaying any abnormal behaviour, she swims and eats like all the rest of the fish. Quite possibly did have more fry and they got eaten, she is in with 3 other swordtails, 2 siamese flying foxes and 6 black widow tetras, which unfortunately i wasn't able to save, but then i again i don't have the facitities to be raising lots of fry so its the strongest survive until i find them at this stage. However, i did notice where the gravid spot used to be really dark, after the first fry it went light, almost pinkish, a couple of days later it went really black again, and now its back to pink. Its been just over a week since i found the fry. She was fat when i got her,(about 4 months ago) but no where near like this.
