i have a 33 gallon with an aquaclear 300 filter. and a lot of my water is evaporating daily. IM replacing it sometimes because it doesnt look too good, but it evaporates again and the water level goes down about an inch and a half. how can i keep it higher?

add a condensation guard to the lid.

wat do u mean cover glass, and there are no gaps in the lid.
A cover glass is a tight fitting glass sheet (usually sliding) that is fitted between the water and the lid to prevent evaporation...

You still need small holes for equipment/tubes etc, and they can make maintenance a little more awarkward.

It sounds like you have a fairly good fitting lid right now, replacing it with a glass one probably will not make that much difference. Evaporation is going to happen regardless. If the air in your area is dry, it will happen much faster than if it's damp. Other than a tighter fitting lid there really isn't any way around this issue. You can't lid your tank up too tight, air does need to get in there, as does your heater and filter. There really isn't much you can do other than topping off and waiting for your air to get more humid, this will lessen the amount your aquarium evaporates.

If you have some kind of cover under your hood but fixed and above the waterline (in my tank, I have 2 fixed glass plates at either side), then find a little tray an inch or so deep, fill it with water and leave it sitting on the plate under the hood. The water evaporating from it should raise the humidity in the space between the water and the hood cover, thus reducing the amount of tank water evaporating.

not sure what type of tank or lid ya got but i have perfecto tanks and lids...there is very few openings in these brands ..even the knock outs for equip can be as small as needed,, my water evaporates too i add about 1/2" once a week, the perfecto lids are great and most of the water condensates on lid and returns in it........

i also use 2 bio wheel filters on my 55 peingun 330's and where the area is for the knock outs for filter bio wheel i cover with the plastic the pkg cover from the plastic plants i got , FITS PERFECT!!
think some of the ones i used were from the tall 20" plants, this prevents + controls evaporation + fish jumpimg out too..

i think i bought hagen plantastic plants, the are pkged in a nice clear firm style plastic material that works well for this aplication..

BUT EVAPORATION IS NORMAL........only a tight fitting cover prevents abnormal amts..
