Evaporation
With my new cube build i am finding that i have 1.5 to 2 litters of evaporation each day {open top sump open top tank}
i was just wondering how you guys top up..... Slowly add RO over a period of time. Heat it up first then just pour it in to the tank.......ect
What’s the best way you guys have found to do this?

Or put the top-up water in the sump. How many heaters do you have and where are they located?

Regards

Yep that would be the best solution seffie. :good:
But t i don’t want to be messing around, or spending too much money on this setup at the moment. I could be breaking it down soon. I am just in the proses of getting some quotes for a new project
So i guess what i should of said is what’s the best manual method?

Crazy fishes i have 2x heaters both located in the sump chamber 1 set at 26 and 1 in the last chamber set at 25 just in case the first 1 fails

I used to just do it once a day on my 29 usg. Mostly in the evening after the kids went to bed (that's my tank maintence time).

You can set up cheap ato's. In fact I bought mine for $55 off the net. Thing is you'll probably use it in the future if you're getting estimates on a new project. Could put it on the new tank which would be no $$ wasted and puts your mind at ease. :)

I am at home most of the day every day, as you all probably know by now. I tend to do it about 3 times a day, that way I am doing a small amount at a time and there are no large fluctuations in sg.

I use room temp RO and a jug to top off to the line I marked on my sump.

If I am acclimatising anything, I make up some sea water, top off with RO first, then start dripping. That way when I top up with sea water again, when finished, I am usually bang on SG still.

That is brilliant..... just put the required water straight into the first chamber of the sump. It will then mix with sump water and be heated to the required temperature before interacting with any live stock. Works beautifully plain and simple :good: .

Regards

yeah i agree with CF.
I tend to top-up around twice per week. usually thats around 10litres.
using a jug i just pour plain RO straight into chamber 1 of the sump. By the time it reaches chamber 4 its pretty mixed in and up to temp anyways.

I quite like that idea don’t know why i never thought of that  :stupid: , it’s so simple as well. :D :good:
+ it will save me wasting money on a auto top up which i won’t need on the new build its going to be fed by a header tank and a float valve :good: .
