i am soon to be taking on a new fish it has been living in a really dirty tank for some time an i think it might be infected with something i cant see anythin an i cant leave him ether he has bin in a tank with dead fish there is no way am leaving him i have a hospital tank set up with clean water for him/her an i was wondering when he/she comes should i put a tiny lil bit of salt in the water just to make sure hes clean am gonna keep him in there for about a week to see if i cann see any sypmtons of anything coz i dont wanna give him meds when theres nothin wrong lol

I dont think you even need the salt but im sure it cant hurt (as long as you know what your doing)

Sounds good. I also don't think the salt is nessisary, unless your fish has been subjected to a fungral disease, in which case it may be healpful. Treat it like a med in my view, as it has been linked to caursing long-tearm health problems, though it has useful effects when used short-tearm for fungral infctions and reducing nitrite toxidity. When you suspect disease, or know a fish has been subjected to one, you need to quarenteen for longer. I recomend a minimum time of 2weeks, though 4 would be prefurable IMO
