I've had some trouble with my male Rosy Barb called Fred but I have no clue what's up with him or what I should about it. I'll try to keep it brief but I apologise in advance; I'm terrible at keeping things short.
For a few days I had a feeling that something was up (hopefully you know what it's like, you know that the fish isn't right but your not sure what actually differant- they're just quieter) then 2 days ago I return from school and found him spinning. Imagine that someone has grab the top (dorsal?) fin of the Rosy Barb but the barb is still trying the swim forward so all it end up doing is pretty much just cartwheels around a point very quickly, pretty much top speed for a Rosy Barb. I know dropsy can cause them to become unstable but he isn't swollen at all and this doesn't seem right for dropsy. He was also being blown around by the filter and breathing really heavily; possibly from the stress.

I netted him out of his tank and put him in a smaller one on his own; I didn't want the other fish bullying him (The Paradise, while not particularly agressive does sleep just where Fred was and really doesn't like other fish in his 'spot') The smaller tank had half the water from his big tank and half new water. He then went completly mad..I assume he was scared but as before he couldn't go any where, just cartwheels. Then he calmed down i fed him one 'tetra Prima' which he ate but he couldn't find it easily and was very unsteady. I noticed that one of his eyes looks as if he's wearing really heavy eyeliner.

2 Day in QT tank. He can't stay up right and spent all his time lying on his side or upside down- no longer doing cartwheels. Ate 2 Tetra Prima but again had trouble finding it. However he seemed to be more perked up..but still upside down. Still go eyeliner around right eye.

Today in QT. Upright and seems better, swimming properly, upright but still shaky- seems a bit unsure sometime swims around in circles. He still has the eye-liner though.

So does any body have any idea what's wrong with him, if he's cured now or what I should be doing with him?

just an added note- not sure if it's relevent- from what I can find he is bred as a naked barb (which i didn't notice in the shop) so he only has a small patch of scales and is slightly tranlucent because of this.

Thankyou for reading and for any help you can give...I'm sorry it was so long

The temperature is too low. Should be 18-22'C.

There could be something wrong with it's air bladder (is that what is is in english?) if it is, it can't be cured. Why are you keeping it suffering for such a long time?

I wouldn't jump on the swim bladder theory just yet.

What have you been feeding them recently?

Hopefully you meant 25C not 15C for the temperature?

the temperature is normally 18 because it's un heated when this cold weather came it dropped to 15 yesterday.

They've had a mixture of things recently- King British tropical fish mini pellets, Tetra Prima, Tetra min and Nutrafin max flakes.

Just to update todays he's gone back down hill doing the odd cartwheel but other wise lying on his side unless you go and talk to him then he tries to get up

15C is just too low for the barb and is probably the cause of the problem. Rosy barbs should be in water no less than 18C for any length of time. You need to get a heater. If that doesn't solve your problem then we can make suggestions as to what the problem might be but there's no point trying to guess why he's behaving as he is while the temperature is so unsuitably low for him.
