er, halogen help?

i'm going to be setting up a planted 10g with a wire top instead of a traditional hood. thus i've purchased an inexpensive 50W halogen lamp to use with the tank. i have no previous experience with halogen bulbs; is this going to be enough light? or should i invest in a second lamp?

*shrug* then its a desklamp once i'm no longer satisfied with it. i'm mostly wondering about the 50 watts.
