Well winter is comming on and I live in Upstate New York in the US (no, not in the busy rude city  .....people.....). Since it gets around about 30 to -10 degrees here my house can't help to get cold inside. Normally its around 65 to 70 degrees inside my house so i NEED a heater. Nor doubt bout that. I have a 2.5 gallon tank planted with real plants (no plasic or silk) One has a 2.5 (female betta) One has a 2.5 (female betta) One has a 2.5 (male betta) One has a 2 (male betta). I really need a heater for these tanks. All the heaters I find are really really big ones with a high wattage. All i need is a itty bitty small heater :( . Also I was thinking about getting a small filter for each betta tank. I have a clearance of about 1 inch above each tank. They are all on shelves. But they look really kewl! :fun: Anyways....... Could someone suggest a place to get these mini equipment. Also I need a filter that wont creat to much of a current becuase bettas dont like current. I really need some help before my bettas turn into popsicles....fish flavored ones.... :X

I use 25W heaters for my 2.5 gal. tanks. Never had a problem. They do stick out of the top so I cut some acrylic to accomodate. Here's a link to Petsmart where I purchased mine:

Heaters

i share your problme and have created a solution....buy a heating pad, put the betta bowl on top and then take a ziplock baggie, a big one, and cut the corners off, put it over the top of the bowl and the fish should stay quite happy. u may need to adjust the heat on the pad depending on how warm the tank needs to be ;)

by the way if this wont work for u, u can buy a powerful desk light and have it shine into the tank from above, they get quite warm

@ rykitten : Thanks alot for your help I think I will buy like....8 of those heathers

@GuppyDude: Thanks for you suggestion but I think that a heating pad wont work in my scenerio, since I herd that those pads will start fires in houses due to over use of the pad Thanks though for the other solution :fun:

Check online. Drs Foster & Smith has a mini heater designed for 2-5 gal tanks and I would expect other pet websites would too.

Itty Bitty Betta,
How far does that stick off of the top of the tank. Err...The inches of filter plasic that is off of the very top of the tank. I have only about 1 inch clearance.. :(

*bump bump* im putting a order in tonight i need some help on the measurment >_<

I just gave my filters like that away,so I can't give you exact measurement's. But to the best of my recollection they are right at an inch or so.

I have a small heater (for 2 - 5 gal) from Wal-mart for my boy's 2 gal tank. Inexpensive and works well. My house temp stays around 70, and his tank stays at about 74.
