epsom salts

did i get this right ? epsom salts ? mgs04 ?? what is it used for in the tank as fertilizer ? a friend of mine whos gonna give me roughly a kilo og kn03 is dosing his tank with mgs04

btw thanks to gf iggy and nitro for helping me out with my tank disaster my tanks is doing a bit better now but still roughly out of shape and i now have a riccia overload problem floating in my tank haha

Yes - Epsom salts are a good source of magnesium. People with very soft water (<3 or 4 dGH) use it as their tap water is deficient. However most tap water sources contain enough magnesium.

You are lucky to be given 1kg of KNO3!

yup very lucky indeed, i think my friend was given a big sack of it from a local mango farmer i dunno, will the epsom salt make my water salty? or no ? its salt.... dunno ... i dont wanna put salt because i have ottos in there

It is a different type of salt, not one that will make your water "salty" in the way you are thinking. Tap water contains mostly calcium and magnesium salts - this is what standard GH test kits measure.

It should be harmless to your otos unless you put too much in.

Do you know your GH?

gh is kinda low here, only around 4-5 deg ....
