Hi
Does anyone know anything about Endlers? Are they sensitive? Or just the same as other livebearers....I saw some at an LFS that I went to the other day....they're amazing with their color and much smaller than guppies...I was going to get some for my son's tank- which only has one prego platy in it at the moment......but, I didn't want to just bring them home without knowing about them first....any info that you all might have would be really appreciated....
TIA...
Ericka

Here's some really good info Endlers I was just looking up their info right now, as I too found some endlers as well in my lfs. They are selling them at a deal $1.99 US. I have seen them go online for $3.50 US each. Let us know if you get them. :D

One thing that is absolutely vital to know about these fish before you buy them is that they are EXTREMELY sexual (sorry don't know how to put it subtley... :*) )

Last summer I bought two males (which is all I could find at the LFS) and they drove my female gups crazy with their constant sexual harrassement---

Now I have all their offspring (endler/guppy hybrids) and they too are just way too ---dare I say it--- horny!!! I have the 3rd gen going on in the tank and even the grandkids are terrible...

I will admit they are very beautiful. My hybrids are exceptionally pretty (I get compliments all the time on their iridescence.. 8) But they are not as good natured and mild mannered as Gups---

WARNING: They will drive your Preg Platy INSANE!!! :-(

thanks for the info (and the warnings ;) )....
They were 3 for 10.00 at the LFS that I saw them for...but all of their fish run on the higher priced side....but, I know that all of their fish are extremely well taken care of....
I thought that all livebearers were 'frisky'...they're constantly chasing eachother around the tank...(the platy in my son's tank came from my daughter's tank- with the male platy, a molly and two gups). I have a 5gal in my kitchen with two sets of guppy fry and two sets of platy fry (one of each from my neighbor's fish)...they're out of control..... ;)
I think that I will take my son back to get some...hopefully they'll still have them...the endler/gup offspring must be very pretty!!!
Thanks!!!!!!!!
Ericka

Endlers tend to be on the small side. This can make it hard for them to compete for food. I got a couple of them and put them in my fry tank and I am not sure they ever ate! The larger guppies would bully them so they would be too frightened to try to get food.

Yes it's true guppies are very amorous, but Endler lust is ten times worse...  :S !!! You'll see, and don't say I didn't warn ya..! All the females will be packin' little suitcases wanting to leave... ;)

It figures...they are latin....from Venezuela right? I should have known.......(I'm allowed to say that  , my husband is from Caracas, Venezuela)... :S .... :fun:

got any pics of these Guppy/Endlers species? and can they breed with platties too? if so I wont be getting any I like to keep my platties strain pure....I wouldnt mind some "gupplers" though LOL

"Gupplers" (I love that name!) are hard to photograph since they are always in motion---like fish on a caffeine buzz... :pepsi:

I will try to take some pix for you who want to see what a true hybrid looks like. I might just end up with a blur of black, purple, hot pink with a hint of yellow! (not kidding about the wild colors.. :) )

Give me a few days to post.... B)

My endlers are so prolific I had so many you couldn't see to the back of the tank.

The females are ALWAYS pregnant. I have mine in a ten gallon,I'm keeping them pure. I'm looking for a few males or females from a different breeder to cut back on the excessive inbreeding. They are ALL related. :X
