petfish.net says that they are not a danger to their fry...isnt that untrue, all fish would take there own fry as a live food...why are endlers different? or did i just miss understand....but that is truely amazing that that is their wild color...i am definitly going to look into some...i have not seen them at my lfs...are they hard to find?

Well, technically all Livebearers are a danger to their fry, but out of my experience, Endlers aren't that bad. However, I would recommend you get just males because

1) They will be easier to find.
2) You won't have to deal with fry, and breeding, and you'll have an over-all more peaceful tank since the males won't be pursuing the females all the time.
3) True Endler females are pretty hard to find, and you don't want them mixing with Guppies if you can help it, as the Endler strain should remain as pure as possible.

Males will also give you a more striking tank, as the females tend to be a little bland. But they should be loved too! Anyway, if you do want to breed, I'd recommend you get Endler females from a true breeder of Endlers who knows they are Endler females. And I'd recommend you get a fry tank.

And you'll have to let us know how it goes! :D

i def will dont worry about that!! :p ...and i really would like to breed these amazing fish...i liek to think of myself as a good breeder...ive bred swords, mollies, plats, and gups all with great success i didnt even know about endlers!!...i have 5 fry tanks...4 of them filled with fry from the swords, mollies, plats, and gups...so looks like i can start breeding after i get them!!! :D ..i am extremely excited!

I'm sure you are a good breeder. Though it's kinda hard to have Livebearers NOT breed. :p

I'd either get a seperate fry tank for these guys, or put them in with the Platies. Wouldn't risk them with the Guppies, or with the Mollies or Swordies just because of size issues.

Please, please, please get the females from a reputable Endler breeder, so you know they are Endlers. Don't trust the LFS.

And Kopix Nation, the reason you think they look like Feeder Fish, is because they look a lot like Feeder Guppies which look like Wild Guppies which look like Endlers. :p

lol awww...no way...they are beautiful!!! i love livebearers!...the very true...i want to try egglayers soon! but dont know how to go about that so ive been studying it up...lol and dont worry im going to shop around before i buy the fish...but i will def take your advice!

Great. :D It will pay off, when you get true Endler fry. If you do find a good breeder, with nice females, I'm sure you'll let all your Buddies in the Livebearer section know, right? :shifty:

What kind of egglayers are you thinking of trying? :)

I love my mollies because they have multiple uses. The fry that I don't like are eaten by my other fish (oscars, bumblebee gobies) or they are fun to pet on the head. My mollies are very tame for fish they like to be stroked on the fins and head.

I'd say if they let you pet them, they are pretty dang smart rather then stupid as you implied they were. Any fish that trusts you enough to let you touch them is smart. :) That's very cool though, I love Livebearers and their personalities. The only fish I can pet is my 8" Kissing Gourami. Guess the other's just can't take the affection, for risk of embarassing themselves in front of their friends...

Anyway, back to the subject on hand. I've had my fun.

Well maybe that was just Ajax being the stupid one. He never was a briliant mind hahaha. I so need to get a replacement for him.

lol o0o i will let you guys no right away!! :D and my guppies let me pet them!..its pretty cool...im thinking of trying like angels, neons, i dunno something fun and something i can try to breed into a beautiful color...my main priority is a endler tank!! :D ...so i have a 20 gallon...how many do ya think i could put in there?! and what would you guys recomend in it?! i love other peoples opinions!...lol how do u think they got they got that name?

Angels are fairly easy to breed, it's just getting a pair that's the hard part. You usually need to get a group, and then let two pair off, then take the others back. But you'll find tons of info on them and breeding in the New World Cichlids Forum. :)

A 20 gallon...do you want total Endlers? Are you planning on putting any fry back in there once they grow up? How planted/decorated is it? And do you do frequent water changes? Well, I guess you have too on the fry tanks anyway, but are you willing to on the Endlers?

They got the name because Endler's were collected by Professor John Endler in North East Venezuela in 1975. That's the first line on Petfish.net, so I guess you didn't read the whole thing. :p

One of my angels died and they were a true pair. :-( The two left are in seperate tanks and neither has a partner.
I have one male and two true female endlers currently. He does chase the girls alot. More coming tho soon and they will eventually have their own space in yet another tank. I don't mind them breeding. Currently these are with tetras and they don't give the fry a chance. Although I've yet to see any born. I will try and rescue them since the tank is small and they are pretty hard to come by.
Hugs,
P.
