Is there anyway that i can safley encourage algae growth?

My new pair of ottos are going to be finished the algae in my tank in probably less than a week and im wondering if there are any simple way to encourage more algae to grow.
I have algae wafers if i need them but i'd prefer real algae.

I was thinking of leaving the tank light on overnight but im afraid of this overstressing the fish or something.
I overfeed slightly so that bottom dwellers have a good meal aswell, but my water stats are always good and well within limits.

I dont want to add CO2 or anything, just if anyone has any simple solutions then please share.

Thanks

Yeah fish need the light to be off for at least 12 hours. You could upgrade your light to 2WPG+, I heard it's algae suicide without CO2.

So is there anything i can do to encourage algae? Or is there a way of growing it seperate from the tank?

Get yourself a clear plastic tub, fill it with water and a few bits of desired decor from the main tank, sit it on your windowsill for a few weeks :p

Wouldnt do this untill you doube check, may well end up having the wrong type of algae :)

Um dunno

I thought that in day it uses CO2 and at night it uses oxygen, like all plants.

I second Luke. Buy a new lamp. I'd get one that degree wise is 10,000 Kelvin or higher. That can lead to lots of algae. Direct sunlight helps too.
