Is there anything i could use other than a jug to empty my tank? It is bare bottom so a gravel cleaner wont work. I have tried a syphon but for some reason i just cant get a suction. Is there a pump or something simliar that i could use to pump the water out of the tank into a bucket?

A powerhead with a piece of hose will work, as will a small pond pump.

Your just not sucking hard enough LOL. A length of hose with a 1" diameter should be OK. Make sure it's long enough to reach from just above the bottom of the tank to the bottom of the bucket, that should be placed at floor level. Granted there is a danger of getting mouthful of water when you suck to get the syphon going, but I've been using this method for 20 years and I'm still here! Obviously make sure that the hose end is well under the water in the tank!

I agree with NatKing. Just go to your lfs and buy a 6' length of 1" clear hose. Stick it in about one inch from the bottom of the tank and give it a good suck. It really doesn't take much. Being clear hose, you can see when the water comes over the top of the aquarium. Once it clears the top and over the outside by a half-foot, remove the tube from your mouth, place your thumb over the end of the tube, aim for the bucket and let her go! :good:
