Empty Tank

Hey everybody,

Ok, here is my situation. I have an empty 55 gallon tank that needs to be filled. I'd love to get a cichlid, preferably carnivorous, but definitely one with plenty of personality. My tank is 48X13X20, and is like i said, is currently empty, so I'll be able to adapt it to be suitable for any fish. Anyway, the most important thing is that it be a species that doesn't get spooked easily, as it will be out in the living room. I would appreciate any input, and if you need something clarified, just post and I'll respond. Thanks in advance.

I would do a severum (or 2 if the sev experts here think that's big enough for 2). They are fantastic fish. Lots of personality

Go for a pair of smaller S.A.s, Firemouths maybe? or Some kind of geophagus (maybe Australis) they are a stunning fish

well as far as your wants you are between a rock and a hard place. I wouldn't go with a cichlid that gets much over 8-10 inches. and the personality that you are looking for you are going to have to go with a sub- adult ( approx 4-5 inches) or an adult fish. but I have many of my cichlids in the highest traffic places in my house and have been raising them since they were 2 or 3 inches and now many of them follow me through the room looking for food and will even take food from my hand it is just a matter of patence. some cichlids will warm right up to you and some wont that is IMO what makes new worlds the best is that ever single fish is different. as for your list here are some that will do okay in a 55 and meet the carnivorious list that you are looking for:

Jack Dempsey
any Crenicichla species that stays in the range mentioned above.
Nandopsis Grammodes is another choice wicked mean, but will bloat and die if there is too much protein in their diet.

these are just some of the fish that I can think of that would fit what you are looking for,
