i have a empty 10 gallon and would like a fish to breed in it. The more colorful and interesting the better :D

Livebearers! LoL...JK
Enless you DO want to breed livebearers, then I say do it, they are good to begin with. You don't really need to do anything to get them to breed though...so if you want something harder then try...maybe...I dunno, tetras? Or some kind of fish that raises their own young (that would be interesting to watch, IMO)

If it was me I'd breed Rams.

I think they're amazing fish and unlike some livebarer breeding I've done in the past (guppy's and swords) they look after their young rather than eating them.

Check out this link

Whether it would be to have 1 pair or 2 pair I'm not sure on what's best. I've got my two in a community tank and they're absolutely stunning - and a tank full of young ....

Plus they would sell well as they're excellent community fish and look great.... oh, I've said part already! :D

thanks for the input. I might try rams but I'm afraid of there hardiness. Ive been told that they are very sensative to water conditions. If not rams ill do swordtails. nice and easy.

I'm with Oohfeeshy on this one Killifish every time...

American-flag fish are a common killifish that's easy to breed if you can find a pair.

Somethign else you might want to think about is shell-dwelling cichlids. There are some that work well in a small tank like the 10 gallon. My favourite's n. multifasciatus. Here's a link you might find useful:

Also, bolivian rams are a good, hardy adn felxible, adaptable alternative to german/blue/gold/dutch rams. However, they are a bit more aggressive so you may need to watch out for this in such a small tank.

You could try corys although it is hard to find totally mature ones at lfs's so you may have to wait a bit before they can breed, but they are very rewarding little fish and the fry are very cute.

If you want to breed fish and then put them in the 55 with your current fish, you are better off with the cories you have in the tank already or possibly some bolivian rams (if you have room for another cichlid pair). Killies wouldn't realy work in that tank and I'd be worried about the swordtails too though probably they would do ok - at least for the time being.

i just bought some Marigold Swordtail and they look great in the 10 gallon and i think the female is already pregnant!

I would have suggested tangykian shelldwellers intresting hardy colorful fish, and relatively easy to breed better then rams but not as easy a swordtail
