Emperor Tetra

Could be something with the swimbladder. What has she been eating and is she looking bloated ?

shes only had flake, she dont tend to go for the plants. She has a bit of a belly, but no different to others.

I assume that the water is well oxygenated. Try feeding her some shelled peas. If not put her into a quarantine and see if a bit of aquarium salt in the water might help

Chris

air pump comes on and off during the day everyone else seems fine. the air pump dont help. I only have the one tank so its not easy to seperate her. I will try the peas? do i cook them?

i had a similar thing with a krib about a month ago. she was swimming with her tail fin folded and using her other fins to balance, she would also only really sit on top of the pump. i realised that since she was being bullied by the other krib she'd developed finrot so i treated this and her fin grew back and she started swimming normally again. might not be the same thing but sounds similar to me

Swim-bladder Disease
Symptoms: Abnormal swimming pattern, difficulty maintaining equilibrium.

Swim bladder problems usually indicate another problem listed here. If you suspect swim-bladder problems in a fish, first check and treat it for other diseases as listed below:

Congenitally deformed bladder.
Cancer or tuberculosis in organs adjacent to the swim bladder.
Constipation.
Poor nutrition.
Chilling or rapid fluctuations in temperature.
Serious parasitic infestation.
Serious bacterial infestation.

how do i treat these?

I put swim bladder interpet treatment in yesterday, no signs of her getting better.

UPDATE

She is spending a lot of time laying on th bottom and her fins are damage. One more dose to go. She is perched in a plant.

hi michelleuk,
ivehad the same problem with emperors at work, they are sod's for getting bacterial diseases. It generally genrates as an internal problem, causing an awkward swimming action. Just from experience it probably is not anything to do with the swim bladder, been there done them treatments with no success.
you will probably find that it will develop into a slime over the body and a form of fin rot.

unfortunately, emperors are easily stressed when under treatment so its quite hard to get success when doing so. I would recommend using myxazin or use no. 9 internal bacteria by interpet.

hope this helps good luck.
