Hello,
I have a 55 gallon tank that has a Bak Pak 2 skimmer, and an emporer 400 filter with 1 power head to circulate. My levels are
Ph - 8.3
Amonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 0

I have had the tank for 3 months with no fish and 52 lbs. of live rock. I have recently had problems with air bubbles. Starting out I thought it was my skimmer so I changed out the air supply line since it looked like it was a little kinked. This made things better but still have the bubbles. Step 2 was to figure out exactly where they were coming from. So I turned everything off except my filter. Ahhh Haaaa!!!! The bubbles where coming from the filter. So Just to make sure I turned off the filter and what do you know the bubbles left instantly. I pulled the filter off and cleaned everything on it and hooked it back up. Seems to of worked some what but still have little and I mean little bubbles in there. Can anyone shine the light on this for me? Is it bad to have some air bubbles? I want to add fish but have heard that it is bad for them.
Thanks in advance.

Bubbles will not harm fish and most corals provided you have good surface agitation to avoid supersaturation (a fany word for too much air in the tank  ) Sponges won't like air bubbles floating around though

What type of filter is the Emperor 400? A HOB isn't it of I remember correctly? What filter media is in there?

All the best

It is a HOB filter. I currently have the basic filters with extra Carbon in the second chamber.
I am looking into another filtration system but not sure what to go to.

I'm not really familiar with HOB's in general, so I'll leave any queries on that filter to others :good:

Small amounts of bubbles are not a problem for most aquaria. If it starts getting really bad so the surface of the water is almost fizzing, that's probably too many ;)

To prevent it, try raising the waterlevel in the tank. "affordable" hob filters like that do not like low water levels.
