I had a 64l with 5 silvertip tetras, 4 platies and 2 CAEs. Stats are amm 0 ni0 na 10 ph 7.5

25l am 0 ni 0 na 30 ph 7

Yesterday i added a new 100 watt heater after a wash in tap water as usual. Temp. Went from 20 to 22 in an hour.
I also added about 3l water from my new filter. I think the resin from the filter may be a toxin
Today 2 of the platies were gasping behind the filter and when i came home there was a dead tetra.
I immedately moved all fish EXCEPT the CAEs to the 25l, which now has 6 platies and 4 tetras as well as 2 otos. Its hideously overstocked but there's nothing i can do. :(
2 tetras have a high gill rate and 1 platy is stll gasping and listless. 2 tetras have mouthrot that was healing but in the last two days all platies from the 64l have developed finrot. The 25l platies are fine.
Ive added esha2000 for the rots and i'll be watching the stats.
What can i do about the 64l?

Keep doing water changes,
Run some new black carbon in the 64 litre tank.

How big are the CAE.

Gasping can be many things from lack of aeration, toxins, bad water quality, ph shock, parasites, bacterial.

I did a 50% water change, ran some new carbon and left the tank alone for 2 days using the CAEs as 'safety monitors'. They couldn't be moved so i just kept an eye on them. One is 5cm the other about 10cm

On the 3rd day levels were normal and the CAEs were fine so all fish moved home. They seem fine apart from some improving mouthrot on the tetras

I think i was lucky to only have lost one tetra, especially when the platies looked so bad. Finrot has been cured :)

Final stocking: 5 platies (1male 4female) 4 silvertips, 2 CAEs

I would buy a bigger tank or rehome the CAE.

Get you some info on them.
