I think I have found the most elusive in the world. It is the most expensive fish i havebought in my 3 months in the hobby at £3.50, the Hillcrest Loach and it just keeps hiding away from me and I can never find it!!

It hides behind my shipwreck, my filter, my little rock, I keep thinking that I have lost it or it has died or something!!!

Still, dead cute fish though and when I get it some of it's own king it should be abit happier and come to play a bit more I hope!

most loaches are a lot more active if kept in a shoal. I'm sure that if you had 2 or more friends for him it would come out and play more.
I also think i read that they're mainly nocturnal so you could try turning the tank lights off after dark to get a closer look.

If so, that's a hillstream loach. They are peaceful, shy fish that need lots of hiding places to feel secure. They prefer to be in groups of at least 3, though 5+ is better. The most important thing to know though is that hillstream loaches aren't actually tropical fish. In the wild, they live in cooler (65-70 degrees), fast flowing, highly oxygenated water. Chances are, your aquarium is none of these, which may explain the elusive behavior.

Hope that helps...
