can anyone possibly identify what pseudatropheus elongatus this is. It was sold to me as a mpanga but. It has come to light that this may not be the case. cheers all.
Hey breywn. This variety looks very similar to the one in your photo. The only diff I can spot is the lighter blue along the upper and lower edge of the tail. Maybe your fish does have this but you cant see it in the photo. Elongatus Chitimba.
Again, thanks a lot, tanks a lot, it does look very similar indeed. I think mine is a full grown male so its possible it has darkened with age?? In what I think is a sub dominant male, you can see an almost yellow tinge on its fins plus there is a slight line along the fin but its difficult to make out if its blue, or just the light shining on it. got myself a bargain today, picked up 6 more synadontis petricola for £9.50, laughing or what. cheers bud, lets hope we, or even you, have got it right.
actualy budd,if you look at the photo of mine you can see the blue line and you can also see the yellow tinge in the other one.
The only thing making me wonder if I have 2 males is that they both have pointy fins???
Sweet as a nut. Those fellas are 10 euro a pop in my lfs thats if they even have them in stock. Using my large brain and my brill maths skills. I work that out as one hel1 of a saving. Post some pics when you have the little fellas settled in. What tank are you going to be putting them into?
About the indetification of your elongatus, from the picture you have and the one on the profile, I would almost be certain that its the fish you have. About the sexing of the fish, is the male in the foreground of your pic a lot more dominant that the other fish? Also when you say pointy fins, do you mean the pectoral fins that they use for display?
Hi budd, the male is the one at the bottom of the photo and he is a lot more dominant than the other fish, yes I do mean the pectoral fin. as you know on a lot of the mbuna the male has a pointed pectoral fin whilst the females is usualy rounded, but not in all cases.
yeh the synadontis worked out at £1.50 a piece, so well pleased with myself, and I have put them in the main tank with all my other synadontis. plenty of cover for them so they will be fine.
its the top fin along its back, as you can see on my photo its quite pointed, well its the same on the other fish, are they 2 males?? will post another photo if she/it keeps still for more than 2 mins.
