Never used one, and am sceptical of their function. For the money you can better systems.

which make would you recommend?
but not the gas cylinder type because i am not quite confident having a pressured gas cylinder in my living room

Why not? Ive got two in my bed room and a huge pub 12lb one in the sitting room, you shouldn't be afraid of them they are fine so long as you are sensible (and I'm not and Ive yet lose a finger or vital limb )
