The electrican is suppost to come over today to put in a new circut breaker since the other one is to old and keeps tripping things off. I imagine it will take a couple hours to put a new one in which would mean they would need to turn electric off while doing it, is their anything I could do to keep the bacteria alive in filter and tank and keep enough oxygen in fish tanks till the electric comes back on?

Unless they very heavily stocked then an aerator would not be nescacery but the problem is the filter. Keeping water flowing through it to keep the bacteria alive is the problem
someone mroe experiencd shud be able to help you

when my electricity went out for 5 hours, i put the bio media into the tank, and about every hour stired up the water. How warm is your house? You can fill water bottles with hot water and float them in the tank if the temp drops too much.

Could I just scoop some tank water up say every 15 minutes and pour it in filters and scoop some more out and pour it back into tank for surface agitation which would make the oxygen?

I doubt a couple of hours would matter to anything.... but if you are a worrier, how about one of the drill driven water pumps ? They sell them here in any "pound shop" ( dollar store ?)
They have hosepipe fittings, so you could flow water around the system every half hour or so with a battery drill !

Just wanted to make sure since I'm in the middle of cloning my 55g and didn't want to take a chance on any bacteria dieing.

Durb,

think of it this way, you have been given both methods people have successfully used during power outages. Some people pour water through their filters, I put my entire filter in the tank and stir it up every hour. I know people have had to survive for a few days on end without power using the pouring water method. I have used my put the filter in the tank for 5 hours and i didn't get an ammnia or nitrite spike. I honestly think these are the best two methods.

All you can do is to do your best to keep the water safe. I doubt you will have problems. If something goes wrong, you can know you have done your best, and that is all you can do. Be sure to watch your water stats the next few days just in case, but i doubt you will have any problems

Put hot water in a cocke botlle do up the lid tight and hen let it sink to the bottom of your tank, this will keep it warm for a few hours
