Electric Yellow W/ Tetras

I want to get some electric yellows but will they be compatable with red eyed tetras. I'm worried that the cichlids will nip at them.

Any information will be appriciated!

PS: I want 2 of the Cichlids so would one male and one female keep the aggression down?

cant do it the pH is completely different from each other....mixing cichlids with any other type of fish but cichlids is a really bad idea...water chemistry is completely different...the cichlids wont nip at them but will probably kill them and then die themselves from the low ph...they need a very high ph where as tetras are much lower...and to keep the agression down u at least need one male to 3 female....or thats how i keep it

also cichlids need a very large tank at least 55 gallons because most at minimum grow to 4 inches

I'll second what bluedollar said. The yellow labs like hard water in the 8.0 to 8.2 range. That is way to hard for the tetras.

The Ph is potentially an issue but with most fish being tank-bred now - it wouldn't neccessarily rule this combination out. The fact that the tetra's probably wouldn't last 5 minutes with Mbuna aggression does though.

This is not entirely correct as I know alot who have Clown Loach and Bristlenose Plec's in their African setups. Alot of fish can sustain such shifts in water chemistry but most people wouldn't bother with the patience required in acclimatising them in the wild water chemistry can change almost over night due to foreign matter making it's way into smaller lakes and streams and such things like acid rain etc.

One thing I certainly wouldn't do is place something like tetra's with African Cichlids
