Im sorry for asking another question...

Is my electric blue 'normal'?

He seems to not like the high range pH he is meant to be in so I have yet again had to transfer him to a 'neutral' pH tank. We had him in our cichlid tank, we got him in a pair with a female and he either just didnt take to it or just prefers a neutral pH. He swims around lots in the aqua start 320. hes about 2.5 inches so really shouldnt stay in the smaller tank. Comes up and says hi. When i put him back in the african tank it took a week and he had shredded fins from stress and was swimming round in a circle because one of his fins wasnt 'working'.

Do you think I should put him in my communal 3ft tank which has a neutral ph? In it there are 3 gouramis, 2 clown loaches and a few platys and a cory, 3 rosybaras and 2 neons. The loaches and gouramis are adult sizes so he wouldnt be the only big one in there.

We just dont want to put himback in the cichlid tank if it is not where he wants to be...

Current tank stats where he is...

pH: 7.0 (neutral)
ammonia: 0ppm
nitrIte: 0ppm
nitrAte: 0ppm

Cochlid tank...

pH: 7.4-7.8
nitrAte: 0ppm
ammonia: 0ppm
nitrIte: 0ppm

If your "Electric Blue" is Sciaenochromis Fryeri or Ahli (most common id's) - they often struggle with Mbuna aggression, which is generally far higher than their own. I had the same problem with my Fryeri about a year ago and he ended up in my 150 gal with my Oscar - never had a problem, they get on great. I wouldn't recommend that combination though - i just didn't want to return the fish so decided to try it and got lucky.

I doubt it's a Ph problem - much more likely to be the stress from aggression although changing between tanks with 2 different Ph's isn't going to do him any good.

A 3 foot tank isn't going to big enough long-term and he still isn't a community fish. Mine is in with an adult Oscar, various adult Plecs and adult Bala sharks, all of which are much bigger than him - Tetra's and Gourami's etc will most likely live a very stressed life as tankmates. :/

EDIT: Just read in your other post that you have Cons in there aswell - not a good combination as they are, if anything, more aggressive than most Mbuna and are the likely culprits for the stress and torn fins.

Yeah i thought so. He is happy swimming round in the tnak he is in now. Theres plant coverage and a couple of feeder fish in there to keep him company. I know its not a large tank but its a temporary measure right now.
