although i'ved said in another post i'll be getting a rio 300 i noticed we have ehiem tanks on stock lists but i can't find any info on them.

the eheiem site is crap and just gves basic dimensions and is impossible to find throguh the site...i did a google search.

so any links or information on the karat 121 would be fab!!

No links I'm afraid, but I do have an Eheim Karat 120 (Maple finish) and I am so pleased with it, I love it, it's great. I've been keeping fish for 35 years and this is the best tank I've owned.

It's a similar to the Juwel Rios but generally better quality and better made. There is no internal filter (good thing) so I have an Eheim Pro thermo-filter.

Did I say I like it? :)

do you have any pictures you could show me? hood arangement, complete set up, cubboard space....??

Yep the internal filter thing is a good thing as you might of gathered from my other post!!

what lighting does it have?

The Eheim tanks seem very expensive for what they are, i can put together a almost identical package for about half the cost. When you consider i spent around £550 on my 205 gallon set up with 3 externals 2 heaters and twin lights the cost of Juwels and Eheims starts to look very bad. With these ready to go set ups you are paying for the name and convienience of buying a package. If you are more worried about having another nice piece of furniture in your front room then go for a brand name package, if you just want a glass box that is a big as you can afford/house then shop around and buy seperates.

No pictures I'm afraid, but:

I think the hood arrangement is as the Rios, ie a central control unit with a light front and back. 36W Grolux at the front and a daylight (?) at the back.

There is a front and back flap which can be opened/removed so the light unit can be pushed to the back to give more access room.

Cupboard space is good. I have the Eheim 2324 in one side and an Eheim 2313 in the other, plenty of room around them for storage of bits and pieces.

The main thing I like is that it is a nice piece of furniture and it is a very easy tank to work on for routine maintainance etc.

I was looking at Rios, then I saw the Eheim in my LFS and I was in love.

I haven't looked into detail at the eheim prices when i was at work as i didn't have any info on them.

Well having a nice nice of furniture does count sometimes, If i was sticking it in a garage or fish room I would make a bodge stand and arange over tank lighting with hanging fittings and just glass covers.

What kit did it come with? i might see if we can order one in just so i can have a better look first.

CFC, I agree, my Eheim is for the living room and it had to have the 'spouse acceptance factor'

The stuff in my 'hobby room' is of the cheep and cheerful but effective variety

ps Paul, if I get a chance I'll upload a picture tonight.

Ah, the dreaded having to please the woman problem. I am very lucky in that respect, having a fiance that would rather get more for the money than spend more and have something pretty is a great bonus when trying to get maximum water volume for the least money. Our first and second tanks were Juwels as we had been led to believe that this was the cheapest option but soon worked out that it was actually that the shop makes more profit selling these

danm i just wrote a descent sized post then it cleared it :(

well i'ved just been doing google searhes and seem to of found oput that only the karat 120 (240 litre) version is in the uk where as other foriegn places have a karate 121 (300 litres) :/

what filtration did yours come with?

actually fish shops make the least profit on juwel tanks, they are actually expensive to buy in, they probable made more getting you a made to order tank.

Quoted from a website - and it's put a funny smiley in:

"This wonderful range of aquariums are made from high quality float glass with a anti-drip seal lid they come complete with :- 2 x waterproof lights ,heater thermastat ,thermometer ,EHEIM external filter with biological & mechanical filtration media and cabinet."

I didn't want the filtration so my LFS kept it and reduced the price :D

Mine is the Karat 120 which is 120cm long and 240 litres.

The 121 is the same length but increases the depth (front to back) from 40cm to 50cm; I'd really like a 150cm one but they don't seem to do it unfortunately*.

*just spotted a 150cm and a 200cm on the Eheim German website.....

Maidenhead Aquatics stock eheim tanks so if you have one of those near you pay a visit. They were doing a nice 200L tank and stand with Eheim pro filter, heater, hood/lights, gravel etc. for around £500..

Ben

nah i don't have a maiden head near me :(

the nearest big shop to me is sea pets or pets at home but they only do juwel and hagen.

hmm 500 for a 200l....will have to get to our price list!
