Hi,

Iveh ad my 2026 set up for about a month now, but dont know what maintenance I have to do?

I am used to the fluval filter where u washed the foam pads in old tank water, but as the 2026 doesnt really have these pads im not sure what I need to do to keep it in good nick.

Also I have bought some carbon pads, where d othese go, and do I have ot take out anything?

Thanks for you help.

I clean mine every 6 months, using tank water to clean the media. It's running on a 65 gallon, along with an Aquaclear 300. Tank inhabitants are 7 angels, a couple bristlenose plecs, and a group of panda corys. These filters are designed to run & run, you don't have to go overboard with maintainance. Pull out the baskets, open them up & swish the media in a bucket of water, I rinse the case out under the tap.

Some people do maintainance more often, the thought being that dirt in the filter is dirt in the tank. I feel the filter is doing what it is designed to do, keeping dirt out of the tank. My angels do fine with that maintainance schedule, keep spawning on a regular basis.

I never run carbon unless I am removing meds, or starting up a new or recently cleaned tank. Some people run it allthe time, they say it keeps the water clearer. Activated carbon only works for a week or so, then needs to be replaced. I can't see opening up a filter like a 2026 every week to replace carbon.

If you chose to run carbon, put it last in the filtering sequence, on the top. You can remove some media from the top basket to fit it in.

Tolak,

Thanks for the info! I will clean it out in a month or so, your right about fiddling to much. My GF always shouts at me for fiddling with my tank, so ill leave the filter for a while

Yeah im only going use the carbon this once as its a new tank and will take out after 2 weeks, I will put it on the top of the canister as i believe this is the last in the sequence, should i take the white pad out, or just put it on top?

I would put it on top if there is room. If it's a little tight, take a little of the media out, then add it back in when you remove the carbon.
